Travel Guide

It is a trip focused mainly on observing the wintering of waders and ducks in the Tagus and Sado estuaries, as well as the sighting of seabirds from Capes da Roca and Raso.
The Tagus Estuary Natural Reserve is the largest reserve in Portugal and the largest estuary in Western Europe, with about 34 thousand hectares. It is a sanctuary for fish, mollusks, crustaceans and, above all, for birds, which during winter can reach 120,000 individuals and 200 species.
The Sado Estuary Natural Reserve. Although it is smaller than that of the Tagus, this Reserve has an area of more than 23 thousand hectares in which more than 200 species of birds find refuge.
Cape Raso is part of the western Portuguese maritime coast and is located in the municipality of Cascais and a few kilometers south of Cape da Roca. This is a place of excellence for the observation of seabirds.
Cape Da Roca is located at the westernmost point of continental Portugal and, therefore, of the Iberian Peninsula and continental Europe. Unlike the previous cape, this one is located 140 meters above sea level and offers magnificent opportunities for watching seabirds.
On our trip we will visit the best Bird watching points throughout this part of Portugal paying special attention to the flow of the tides, since it is very important to be able to observe waders when they flock to feed on the silts.
The visits to the capes will be carried out in the mornings, which is when Seabirds can best be observed.
