Travel Guide
This trip of six days and five nights is focused on the sighting of the birds that inhabit these two islands.
In addition to its high landscape value, birdlife that we can enjoy is very special since many of them can only be seen on these islands within Europe.
Although the number of species that can be seen on a trip like this is not high, what is worth is the uniqueness of the species that can be observed.
There are a total of 7 species that are endemic of the Canary Islands: Laurel Pigeon, Bolle’s Laurel Pigeon, Canary Islands Chat, Tenerife Blue Finch, Gran Canaria Blue Finch, Canary Islands Chiffchaff and African Blue Tit.
Three others are endemisms of the Macaronesia archipelagos: Plain Swift, Berthelot’s Pipit and Canary.
It also has more than thirty subspecies in the entire Canary archipelago, among which it is worth mentioning Canarian subspecies of Egyptian Vulture, Eastern Canary Barn Owl, Houbara Bustard, Trumpeter Bullfinch, Great Spotted Woodpecker in the forest environments of Tenerife and Gran Canaria, Goldcrest of western islands, Common Chaffinch, etc.
Another of the star Birds of the islands is the Cream-coloured Courser that can only be observed in Europe in this territory and a few specimens in Turkey.
Weather
Due to their geographical location, these two islands enjoy a mild climate all year round. However, the average temperatures in October are between 26 ºC maximum and a minimum of 18 ºC.
Recommendations for the trip
It is advisable to bring some warm clothing for early morning. Although rainfall is very scarce in Lanzarote and scarce in Tenerife, a raincoat is advisable especially for walks through the laurel forest of Tenerife. Although we are not going to do long walks, comfortable trekking shoes or boots are recommended for twalks.
