Río Lobos Canyon

Travel guide

The Cañón del Río Lobos Natural Park is located on horseback between the provinces of Burgos and Soria. It is 22 kilometers long and houses the largest colony of Griffon Vultures in the province of Soria.

Our first observation point will be the viewpoint of La Galiana to wait for the Griffon Vultures to make their daily departure in search of food. Then we will take the route that passes through the Hermitage of San Bartolomé to be able to contemplate the rest of the Forest and Cliff Birds that inhabit this beautiful canyon. During the walk it is not difficult to see Northern Goshawk, Blue Rock Thrush, various species of Warblers,  Tits and Buntings, and with greater difficulty Golden Eagle. This canyon also has some Egyptian Vultures.

You can see a post with photos in: Río Lobos

Climate
During March we can find sunny days with a pleasant temperature, or rainy days with intense cold.

Recommendations for the trip
It is advisable to wear warm and waterproof clothing or similar. For photographers it is advisable to carry a waterproof camera and lens case. We can find ourselves with a drizzle that does not prevent us from birding, but that can negatively affect the photographic equipment.

Difficulty of the excursions
Low. The tour is comfortable for well-defined walks that do not offer any difficulties.
